Privacy Policy
Last updated September 29, 2026
Ruth is made by NORV Inc. (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information Ruth handles and how. It covers the Ruth app for Windows, this website, and Ruth email addresses (name@ruth.team). Ruth is built for attorneys and their staff in the United States.
- Ruth works on your computer. Your documents, recordings, notes and case information stay there, encrypted. We don’t upload them, and we can’t see them.
- If you connect your email, Ruth reads it on your computer with read-only access. Your email never passes through our servers.
- Ruth is not a backup service. If you lose your computer, we can’t restore your files.
- We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
1. Information that stays on your computer
These are stored only on your computer, and are never sent to us:
- Documents and files you add to Ruth, and the text Ruth reads from them (including scanned pages, which are read on your computer).
- Deposition details you enter, such as the witness, date, case and meeting link.
- Audio recordings, and any transcript or notes Ruth makes from them. Speech recognition runs on your computer; no audio is sent anywhere.
- The sign-in tokens for any email account you connect.
- A troubleshooting log of what Ruth did (never the content of your documents or emails). It stays on your computer unless you choose to send it to us.
Ruth encrypts these files (AES-256) with a key protected by your Windows account.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: your name, firm, the email address for receipts, your Ruth email address, and a phone number if you give one.
- Billing: payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your subscription status and limited card details (such as the last four digits and expiry). We never see or store your full card number.
- Provider contacts: contact details of court reporters, videographers and interpreters (name, company, email, phone and the states they work in), which we use to help attorneys book them. We don’t collect information about your cases with them.
- Ruth email: messages sent from and to your Ruth email address, as described in section 4.
- This website: no cookies and no analytics. Our hosting provider processes standard request information (such as IP address and the page requested) to deliver and secure the site.
3. Your email account (Google and Microsoft)
- Connecting your email is optional.
- Access is read-only. For Gmail, Ruth requests Google’s
gmail.readonlypermission. For Outlook and Microsoft 365, Ruth requestsMail.Read, plusUser.Readto show which account is connected andoffline_accessto keep the connection. Ruth cannot send, delete or change your email. - The part of Ruth that reads your email runs on your computer and communicates only with Google or Microsoft. Your emails, attachments and sign-in tokens are never sent to our servers.
- Ruth opens only emails that match its rules (such as scheduling emails and emails with exhibits or case documents attached), and shows you each email it opened. Attachments are filed only after you approve them, and are stored encrypted on your computer.
- You can disconnect at any time in Ruth, and revoke access in your Google or Microsoft account settings.
Google user data. Ruth’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information received from Google APIs stays on your computer; we don’t transfer it to anyone, use it for advertising, use it to develop or train AI models, or allow any person to read it.
4. Ruth email (@ruth.team)
- Ruth sends a message from your Ruth address only after you approve it.
- Outgoing messages pass through our server and Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES) for delivery. We don’t keep a copy after delivery; your copy is kept in Ruth on your computer.
- Incoming messages are received by Amazon SES, locked with a key only your computer has, and deleted from our side once your Ruth app downloads them.
- Like all email, messages can be read by the email systems they pass through while in transit.
5. Who we share information with
- Service providers that run parts of Ruth for us: Stripe (payments) and Amazon Web Services (hosting and email delivery). When you connect your email, Ruth on your computer talks directly to Google or Microsoft.
- Legal requirements: when required by valid legal process. Your documents and case files are only on your computer, so we don’t have them to disclose.
- We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. How long we keep information
- Account and billing information: while your account is open, and afterward only as long as needed for billing, tax and legal records.
- Information on your computer: until you delete it in Ruth. Uninstalling Ruth leaves your data folder in place in case you reinstall; to remove everything, delete the Ruth folder in
%APPDATA%after uninstalling. - You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing info@ruth.team.
7. Security
Ruth encrypts your files on your computer, uses HTTPS for everything it sends, uses read-only permissions for your email, and never asks for or stores your email password.
8. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. California residents also have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We don’t sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Email info@ruth.team and we will respond within 45 days.
9. Children
Ruth is a professional tool and isn’t directed to anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
